PATIENT EDUCATION:
World Alzheimer's Day September 21
Dementia knows no social, economic, or ethnic boundaries.
There are currently estimated to be 44 million people worldwide living with dementia. The number of people affected is set to rise to over 135 million by 2050.
There is one new case of dementia worldwide every four seconds.
There is persuasive evidence that the dementia risk for populations can be modified through reduction in tobacco use and better control and detection for hypertension
and diabetes, as well as cardiovascular risk factors.
Obesity and lack of physical activity are important risk factors for diabetes and hypertension, and should, therefore, also be targeted
“What is good for your heart is good for your brain”.
